Crochet Halloween Baby Bib Pattern (Easy Pumpkin Bib)

A soft cotton bib with a simple pumpkin appliqué makes a sweet, useful gift for a baby's first Halloween. This pattern uses baby-safe cotton yarn and a simple button closure.

Materials

• Orange or black DK weight cotton yarn (about 40g)
• Small amount of green and black yarn for the pumpkin motif
• 4.0mm crochet hook
• One button
• Yarn needle

Bib Body

Chain 3, join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join. (6)

Round 2: inc around, join. (12)

Round 3: (1 sc, inc) around, join. (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, inc) around, join. (24)

Continue increasing evenly for 2-3 more rounds until the bib body measures approximately 6-7 inches across, forming a rounded chest shape.

Neck Shaping

On the next round, work only three-quarters of the way around, leaving a gap for the neck opening. Turn and work back and forth in rows for 2-3 more rows to build up the front bib panel below the neckline.

Neck Strap

Chain 12-14 on one side of the neck opening, then continue with sc across the remaining live stitches on the other side to form one continuous strap with a buttonhole gap left near the end (skip 2 chain sts partway along, then chain 2 to bridge the gap on the return row).

Pumpkin Motif

With orange yarn, work a small flat circle (MR, inc around twice to about 18-24 sts), add a small green stem and 2 surface-stitched black jack-o-lantern eyes and a zigzag mouth if desired, then sew to the center front of the bib.

Button

Sew a button to the strap end opposite the buttonhole.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Work 1 round of sc around the entire outer edge for a clean, finished border.

Tip: use 100% cotton yarn for anything worn against baby's skin — it's soft, breathable, and machine washable, unlike most acrylic yarns.
