Crochet Clutch Purse Pattern (Easy Evening Bag)

This clutch uses a dense textured stitch for structure without needing a stiff lining, and a simple fold-over flap for closure. A quick, elegant project that works well in a metallic or solid-color yarn.

Materials

• 100-120g DK weight yarn
• 3.5mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• A button or small magnetic snap
• Optional: fabric lining for structure

Textured Stitch Pattern

Worked in rows, using front-loop-only single crochet for a ribbed, textured fabric with good body.

Chain 25.

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn. (24 sc)

Rows 2-30: ch 1, sc in FLO of each st across. Turn.

Continue until the piece measures about 14-15 inches long — this single rectangle will be folded into the clutch shape.

Fasten off.

Assembly

Fold the rectangle so that about two-thirds forms the body/pocket and one-third folds over as the flap. With right sides together or wrong sides together (depending on your preferred seam visibility), whip stitch or single crochet the two side seams of the body portion together, leaving the flap portion unattached so it folds freely over the top.

Edging

Work one round of sc evenly around the entire outer edge of the assembled clutch, including the flap, to neaten the edges and add a bit of structure.

Closure

Sew a button to the center front of the bag body, positioned where the flap naturally falls when folded down. Work a small button loop (chain a length that fits snugly around your button, sl st to close into a loop) and sew to the underside tip of the flap, or use a magnetic snap for a cleaner look.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. If desired, cut a piece of fabric slightly smaller than the interior and hand-sew it in as a lining for added structure and a finished look inside.
