Crochet Christmas Stocking Pattern (Easy Holiday Decor)

This roomy stocking works up in simple rows of half double crochet, with an optional textured cuff for contrast. It's fully functional — sturdy enough to hang and fill with small treats.

Materials

• Red or green worsted weight yarn for the body (about 150g)
• Cream or white yarn for the cuff (about 50g)
• 5.0mm crochet hook

Stocking Body (Make 2 Panels)

Chain 25.

Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. (23 hdc)

Rows 2-18: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc across. Turn. (23 hdc each row)

This builds the leg portion of the stocking to about 12 inches. At row 18, begin shaping the foot:

Row 19 (Heel Shaping): Ch 2, hdc in next 15 sts, leave remaining sts unworked. Turn. (16 hdc)

Rows 20-24: Ch 2, hdc across the 16 sts. Turn. — 5 rows, building the heel.

Row 25 (Toe Shaping): Ch 2, hdc in next 5 sts, dec twice, hdc in remaining sts. Turn.

Row 26: Ch 2, hdc in next 3 sts, dec twice, hdc across. Turn.

Continue decreasing 2 stitches every row until 6-8 stitches remain, then fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Repeat entirely to make the second panel.

Assembly

With right sides together (or wrong sides together for a visible seam look), whip stitch or single crochet the two panels together along the toe, heel, and side seam, leaving the top of the leg open.

Cuff

With cream or white yarn, work a foundation chain matching the top opening width, then work 4-5 rows of hdc in a contrasting texture (front-post/back-post hdc for ribbing works well). Sew the cuff around the top opening, folding it over the outside of the stocking.

Hanging Loop

Cut a length of ribbon or crochet a short chain, fold in half, and sew both ends to the inside back of the cuff to create a hanging loop.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Block gently to even out the shape before hanging.

Tip: work the two panels in slightly different shades of red if you want a subtle ombre look, or keep them identical for a clean, classic stocking.
