This mini broom is a fun accent piece โ€” pair it with the witch hat pattern for a matching wreath set, or use it as a standalone hanging ornament.

Materials

  • Brown yarn for the handle (about 10g)
  • Tan or golden-brown yarn for the bristles (about 15g)
  • 4.0mm crochet hook
  • A thin dowel, chopstick, or stiff wire (optional, for a rigid handle)
  • Yarn needle
  • Small piece of twine for wrapping

Abbreviations

  • ch โ€” chain
  • sc โ€” single crochet
  • st(s) โ€” stitch(es)

Handle

With brown yarn, chain 20-24 (depending on your desired broom length).

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and across.

Row 2: ch 1, sc across, working through both loops for a firmer tube-like cord.

Fasten off, leaving a tail. If you'd like a rigid, upright broom, crochet this as a tube (join in the round instead of working flat) and slide a thin dowel or stiff wire inside before closing the end.

Bristles

Cut 15-20 strands of tan or golden-brown yarn, each about 6-8 inches long.

Assembly

Gather all bristle strands together and fold them in half over one end of the handle. Wrap a length of twine or matching yarn tightly around the bundle about 1 inch below the fold to secure the bristles to the handle, wrapping several times and tying off securely.

Trim the bottom ends of the bristles evenly, or leave slightly uneven for a more rustic, worn-broom look.

Finishing

Weave in any loose ends on the handle. Add a small bow of ribbon or twine around the wrapped section for a decorative touch.

Tip: fan the bristles out slightly and trim at a slight angle rather than perfectly straight across โ€” it gives the broom a more natural, well-used silhouette.
